Winter CSA Share November 6 - 10

Posted 11/5/2010 6:20pm by Andre Cantelmo.
There are some new additions to this weeks share. We've finally gotten some round gold potatoes harvested and will add those to the selection. The variety is called Satina and we grow it in place of Yukon Gold because it is better in the field and in storage while sacrificing nothing in flavor. Just today we harvested another asian type mustard that has a distinct mustard flavor but no sharpness at all. The crew and I thought that it was quite good and would suggest it for stir fry, soup or steaming. The kohlrabi in this weeks' share is the last of the spring/summer types, tasty but not as sweet as those that will be in the share later this year. Also this week we have some mesclun mix. The broccoli should make an appearence again next week, it needs another week under the row cover to mature. This week has been all about row cover over fall/winter greens and digging potatoes. We hope to finish potatoes next week and start bringing in the carrots. Dig, dig, dig!

This weeks' share:

2 lbs potatoes
2 winter squash
1 lb carrots
3 onions
2 shallots
1 garlic
5 apples
1 bunch hakurei turnips
1 bunch radish
1 bunch kale
1 bunch asian mustard
1 head bok choi
1 kohlrabi
1 bag mesclun mix

 Enjoy, Greg
